Wedding portraits

My uncle Pip is a very talented photographer. Shortly after we got engaged, we asked him if he would be willing to take some wedding portraits for us, and we are so happy that he was up for it! My aunt Martha came along to offer some artistic direction, and we also brought my friend Sara to help with my dress. We decided to do photos the day before the wedding: this way, we could take our time, and take advantage of the beauty of the area. There are so many beautiful spots, and many of them have special significance to us. We didn't want to have to leave the reception to take photos, so it just made sense. It also ended up being a great thing, because now we have some photos where you can see the ocean, instead of fog, to go along with our beautiful foggy photos. This was one of my favourite parts of the whole wedding week. We all had so much fun, and it was really nice to get away from the house. I think the photos turned out beautifully, and we will treasure them forever. Thank you so much, Pip and Martha!

The first location we went to was a bluff very close to the venue. Aaron and I have gone on many long walks up here, and it was a great place to have our first look!

We next went to the pier where one of our family friends keeps his lobster boat.

We also went to a beautiful cliff overlooking one of our favourite beaches. On Aaron's first trip to the area, I took him here and he loved it.

We ended up at my parent's land on the lake.

Sun and sea

The morning after the wedding, we hosted a brunch at the venue. Some of our friends camped out there over night, so it worked out pretty well. It was a beautiful day, all the fog was gone, and we could see the view. However, we were all pretty exhausted, and I don't think anyone took any photos! The brunch was delicious. My mom and I had made dozens of breakfast burritos and my cousin and aunts made a ridiculous amount of muffins. We also had Montreal bagels with locally smoked salmon. We put out water melon, coffee, tea, and left over cupcakes! The only photo I have from brunch is one I took of Findlay watching the festivities.

Some of my cousins and friends went to the beach afterwards, and Charlie took these beautiful photos.

Later in the day, Aaron and I met up with them at the lake. It was so nice to just relax, but it was sad to say goodbye to people as they left. I really hope there is an excuse to see everyone I love all in one place again.

Out on the water

So many of our friends traveled so far to be in Nova Scotia for our wedding. We really wanted to make sure that they all had nice places to stay and had some fun things to do, so we arranged for a family friend to take our friends and Aaron's family for a ride in his lobster boat to see the area and to fish. Our friends went on Thursday, and caught two fish. Aaron's family went on Sunday and caught about thirty. It's all in the timing, I suppose. My uncle, Robbie, went along for the ride to give a little tour. Charlie and Jeremy took these photos of the trips!

Birthday things and a long overdue update

We've had an incredibly busy past couple months, which lead to my basic disappearance from this blog. Oops. I finished my student teaching and graduated, and ever since then, I have been working on getting my teaching license for Pennsylvania, finding an apartment, working on getting rid of things and getting ready to move, and our wedding! It's been pretty hectic.

My birthday was last week, and I had the best day. Aaron made me an amazing breakfast, which we ate on our patio. One of the reasons I love this apartment is because it feels like you live in a tree house in the summer, particularly on the patio. Then we went to a couple of beautiful spots around Halifax. We're trying to stop at all our favourite places before we move. We had dinner on the patio at The Bicycle Thief, which was delicious and had a fantastic view, which you can see in the photo with our cool blue water glasses. I made one of my favourite cakes, and Findlay played some cat games on my new iPad. It was hilarious.

I'm hoping to start posting a bit more regularly, but with the wedding and the move to Pittsburgh it's a bit dubious. We'll see how it goes! I can't wait for the next big adventures with Aaron.

Friday!

It's been a very long week here, and I'm happy that it's Friday. The weather here is starting to get a bit colder, and fall is definitely in the air!

New York memories

Aaron's family is off to New York City this week! They are going to have the best time. I was looking through the photos I took in New York when I was there last summer, and decided to post some here!
