A short trek to the store

We decided to walk over to the store to get a few more snow snacks. I have never in my life seen so much snow! I was amazed. Aaron has spent almost every winter of his life in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, so he wasn't as flabbergasted as I was. I just hope this was the last storm of the season... hopefully it can melt as soon as possible!

Snowy days

We have had so much snow this winter. I don't think I've ever in my life seen more snow. I've heard it's been record breaking amounts. Since last night, Halifax has gotten about 50 cm, on top of the 30 cm that fell on Sunday. Suffice to stay: we have spent A LOT of time indoors this winter.

Since almost everything has been closed today, Aaron got to stay home! We've made the most out of the situation: we've been living in cozy pajamas, drinking lots of home roasted coffee and espresso, played a board game, watched a few movies and Better Call Saul, enjoyed our #stormchips, we've been listening to the incredible new Modest Mouse album, Strangers to Ourselves, and we've just been spending time together and with Findlay. I took several photos of our day, including our Monopoly game, which Findlay was extremely interested in.

Lately

I realized this morning that I have not posted anything in over a month! Life has been particularly busy this winter. I am currently on March Break from student teaching in a grade 6 class, and I have been loving every minute of it. Halifax has also been hit with a multitude of storms, which has left us covered in a very thick layer of ice and snow. Usually I love going out and taking photos in the snow, but all the ice has made is all quite difficult. I think we're all ready for Spring! I'm hoping to get caught up on some posts in the next week. How has your winter been?

Snow!

We woke up to a little bit of snow this morning! It's the time of year where this is exciting, so I'm very happy about it. Findlay is very interested by the snow as well... just as the last of his leaves have fallen off the tree, he has something else to watch!

Kejimkujik National Park

The final stop on our adventures the other day (after Mahone Bay and Lunenburg) was Kejimkujik National Park. It was absolutely beautiful and so peaceful to spend a few hours hiking through the fresh snow. Our original plan was to hike along the lake, but the roads were not plowed very far into the park. We abandoned the car at the visitor's center, and walked to a trail that runs along the river, complete with a couple of little waterfalls! Hardly anyone had been on the trail so far that day, so most of the snow was pristine and untouched, sparkling in the sunlight. The sounds of the rushing river were soothing as we walked through the forest. It was a mixture of quiet and noise that made me feel completely at peace.

Lunenburg

A few photos of our stop in Lunenburg yesterday. I hadn't been to Lunenburg since I was in my first year of university, but not a lot has changed... colourful buildings, lots of ships, and nice harbour views. We didn't stay very long, but I'm glad that we were able to make this stop!

Mahone Bay

Aaron and I woke up early and spent the day exploring. It was great. It snowed a bit last night, so everything was frosted in white. Since the sun was popping out from behind the clouds most of the day, both the snow and the sea were sparkling, and the weather was very warm. Our first stop was Mahone Bay, a small, colourful town with multiple churches right on the ocean. I had never been to Mahone Bay before, but enjoyed it immensely. We meandered along the little streets, looking at the brightly painted buildings and stopped for coffee at Eli's Espresso. It was a wonderful way to start the morning.

Long Lake

Long Lake is a picturesque provincial park with kilometres of trails just minutes from Halifax. I hadn't been since this summer when I went swimming on an incredibly hot and sunny day with a bunch of friends. Aaron and I decided to drive out and go for a long walk today. The lake is frozen and covered with snow, as are the multitude of trees surrounding the area. Trails run along (currently) frozen creeks, through dense trees, and curve by the lake. The weather was perfect: sunny and very warm (considering that it's winter). If you're ever in the area, Long Lake is an excellent stop to make when exploring Nova Scotia.
